Fawkham and Ash
Archaeological Group (FAAG)
The Fawkham and
Ash Archaeological Group was formed in 1965 and carried out rescue work
under the direction of Roger Walsh, later Ted Connell, Roger Cockett and
Gerald Cramp. From that time members of FAAG have carried out a number
of emergency excavations in the parishes of Ash, Fawkham, Longfield and
West Kingsdown. From time to time notes of work carried out have
appeared in the Kent Archaeological Review and Archaeologia Cantiana.
Roger Walsh passed away in 2003 and Ted, Roger and Gerald
now in advancing years are conscious that the archaeological information
discovered by members of the Group should be shared.
In an ideal world each excavation would be written up and
hopefully published in the archaeological county journal, however it has
to be recognised that this is becoming less likely to happen with each
passing year. So a determined effort is now being made to bring our
archaeological archive up to a state where all the information in our
excavation records, plans, photographs and finds etc can be accessible
to interested parties.
Therefore information about our work will be displayed
on this website
