Sir Cornelius Warmington
One of the most distinguished lawyers of his time, he was of humble origins, and was articled to a firm of solicitors in Lincoln's Inn. Called to the Bar in 1869, by the Middle Temple. Practised as a conveyancing and equity draughtsman. Became one of the leading juniors at Lincoln's Inn. In 1882 he became a Q.C., his career advanced rapidly from that time. In 1886 he became Liberal M.P. for West Monmouthshire. Among his various offices, he was a member of the Counsel for Legal Education, President of the Counsel for Law Reporting, Chairman of the General Counsel of the Bar, Treasurer of the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple and a member of the Senate of the University of London.
When the Liberals won the 1906 general election, he was expected to become a Judge at the Chancery Division or even a Lord Justice of the Court of Appeal, this did not happen; he may have been offered a post but turned it down ? He was in that year, created a Baronet. He had retired by time he was made a Baronet, but shortly before his death, was on the Royal Commission on the Land Transfer Acts.
He married Annie, youngest daughter of Edward Winch, in 1871. He was said to have a rather loud voice and forceful character, although from the beginning of his career he was beyond doubt, "an admirable advocate" (Times)
