(now in Chatham), and on Chatham Hill to wife Elizabeth for life. She to
keep in good repair and pay rents on leaseholds. She also gets household
goods, furniture, etc., dead farming stock and husbandry implements to
enable her to carry on farming business as she thinks fit. She also gets
dividends and interest on all his investments in the Public Funds, or due
to him on mortgage, etc. Residue to her for life. If she does not carry on
farming business, then this to be offered to son Thomas (on the usual
valuation). He is to give securities to executors for this valuation,
which is to be invested in Public Funds. Wife to have interest of this for
her life. After she dies property in Cage Lane in occupation of
[ ] Honey and 4 leasehold cottages on Chatham Hill
occupied by James Norman and others, and household goods, real and
personal estate to sons Henry and George, Upon Trust, to be sold.
In case son Thomas has not been "appraised" into
the farm at Bredhurst, and he is inclined to take it, the Landlord of lady
should accept him as tenant. He should be appraised and become a debtor to
the estate to the amount of the appraisal, unless he pays the sum down.
Sons Henry and George to pay money from above sales equally
among testator's children, Henry, George, Isaac, Richard, Thomas and Sarah
wife of Jesse Green. Of the remaining seventh part half to daughter Ann
wife of Stephen Stoneham, the other half to Elizabeth Pemble, now living
with the testator, she is the "natural" daughter of his
daughter, Ann Stoneham. Sons to whom he has advanced money , should have
paid interest to their mother, if they have not, sums advanced are to be
taken from their legacies.
If any of his children or grand daughter, Elizabeth, should
die before his wife, leaving children, then the child or children to share
parent's portion. Wife and sons Henry and George, executors.

Codicil dated 3rd June 1826
His will ordained a seventh part of money from above sale,
after his wife's death, to son Richard. Executors are to place this
seventh part in Public Funds. Interest to son Richard for life. After

no children, then shared among other sons and daughters above named; if
any of them die leaving children then their share to those children. Rest

Richard Winch, Member of the London Stock Exchange, living at
Kidbrooke (1901 Census); died at Sidmouth (Times)
George Winch, Solicitor, first Mayor of Chatham, 1890. He married
Mary Clarke Bluett at Brighton in 1866
Sir Cornelius Warmington One of the most distinguished lawyers of his
time, he was of humble origins, and was articled to a firm of solicitors
in Lincoln's Inn. Called to the Bar in 1869, by the Middle Temple.
Practised as a conveyancing and equity draughtsman. Became one of the
leading juniors at Lincoln's Inn. In 1882 he became a Q.C., his career
advanced rapidly from that time. In 1886 he became Liberal M.P. for West
Monmouthshire. Among his various offices, he was a member of the Counsel
for Legal Education, President of the Counsel for Law Reporting, Chairman
of the General Counsel of the Bar, Treasurer of the Honourable Society of
the Middle Temple and a member of the Senate of the University of London.
When the Liberals won the 1906 general election, he was
expected to become a Judge at the Chancery Division or even a Lord Justice
of the Court of Appeal, this did not happen; he may have been offered a
post but turned it down ? He was in that year, created a Baronet. He had
retired by time he was made a Baronet, but shortly before his death, was
on the Royal Commission on the Land Transfer Acts.
He married Annie, youngest daughter of Edward Winch, in 1871.
He was said to have a rather loud voice and forceful character, although
from the beginning of his career he was beyond doubt, "an admirable
advocate" (Times)

to date, to her executors as she may bequeath.

dead stock, implements, household goods and furniture, etc., to his 3
sons, they are also executors.
