IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN I JOHN SIMS
of the parish of Gillingham in the County of Kent Shipwright being in
Bodily Health and of sound and disposing Mind and Memory and considering
the perils and dangers of the Sea and other uncertainties of this
Transitory Life do publish and declare this my last Will and Testament
in manner following (that is to say) First
I recommend my Soul to God that gave it and my Body I commit to the
Earth or Sea as it shall please God to order and as for and concerning
all my worldly Estate I give
bequeath and Dispose thereof as followeth that is to say unto my loving
Wife ELIZABETH SIMS during the term of her natural Life
and then to my Mother SUSANNAH SIMS (if she be living) if
not to be equally divided between JOHN SIMS DUNK
the Son of WILLIAM and SUSANNAH DUNK and SARAH
STAPLES the Daughter of RICHARD and ANN STAPLES
all Wages Sum and Sums of Money
Lands Tenements Goods Chattels and Estate whatsoever which shall be any
ways due owing or belonging unto me at the time of my decease I do give
devise and bequeath the same unto the said persons above mentioned
(excepting these Legacies following) all
my wearing apparel equally to be divided between my Brother JOSEPH
SIMS and my Sister's Husband WILLIAM DUNK also
to my said Brother JOSEPH SIMS one Guinea to buy a
Mourning Ring and to JOHN SIMS
the Son of JOSEPH and ELIZABETH SIMS my Watch And
I do hereby nominate and appoint my loving Wife ELIZABETH SIMS
whole and sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament hereby
revoking all former and other Wills Testaments and Deeds of Gifts by me
at any time heretofore made and I do ordain and ratify these presents to
stand and be for and as my only last Will and Testament In
Witness whereof to this my said Will I have set my hand and seal the
fifth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred
and and seventy one and in the eleventh year of the Reign of his Majesty
King George the third over Great Britain etc JNO. SIMS

Codicil
Be it
Known unto
all Men by these presents that I JOHN SIMS of the parish
of Gillingham in the County of Kent Shipwright have made and declared my
last Will and Testament in writing bearing date the fifth day of January
in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy one I the
said JOHN SIMS do by these presents give and bequeath to ANN
STAPLES Daughter of RICHARD and ANN STAPLES
that part of share which in my said Will (bearing date as aforesaid) I
had bequeathed to SARAH STAPLES Daughter of RICHARD
and ANN STAPLES And
likewise to JOHN SIMS DUNK Son of WILLIAM
and SUSANNAH DUNK my Watch which in my said Will (bearing
date aforesaid) I had bequeathed to JOHN SIMS Son of JOSEPH
and ELIZABETH SIMS And
my Will and Meaning is that this Codicil or schedule be and be judged to
be part and parcel of my said Will and Testament And that all things
therein contained and mentioned be faithfully performed in as full and
ample manner in every respect as if the same were so declared and set
down in my said Will In Witness
whereof I the said JOHN SIMS have hereunto set my hand and
seal the fifteenth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand
seven hundred and seventy six and in the sixteenth year of the Reign of
his Majesty King George the third over Great Britain etc JNO
