Ash next Ridley - Parish Information

A Downland Parish - Ash by Wrotham in Former Times by W. Frank Proudfoot

A manuscript history of Ash, written in the 1970's but never published (about W. Frank Proudfoot)

Chapter 7 - From Bowes to Lambard  page 86

was at Ash that he collected the materials for his admirable account, referred to elsewhere, of Ash church; he wrote it at Singapore.
One of the few spectacular events to occur in the vicinity of Ash Place, at least in peace time, was a fire in the autumn of 1975 which destroyed the garnered harvest at Ash Place Farm. It was a sad moment for the farmer, Mr Cyril Seath, who had been farming in Ash for the best part of fifty years, for many of them from a wheeled chair. During that time, he had restored a near

derelict Ash Place Farm to the highly productive unit that it remains,
Although New Ash Green has grown apace a few fields away, the immediate surroundings of Ash Place have not greatly changed. The mellowed red brick of the manor house and the flint and stonework of the church still blend happily into a rural picture of great charm. There is no pub to complete the trinity, but the Swan is not far away.
