The History of Education in the Village of Ash next Ridley, Kent. (1735-1950)
by N. J. Muller.  An Historical and Sociological Survey

Controlled at last 1946—1950     Page 38

‘The MINISTER OF EDUCATION in pursuance of subsection (2) of section 15 of the Education Act, 1944, hereby DIRECTS that the Ash Church of England School, in the Parish of Ash, in the county of Kent, shall be a controlled school. Given under the official Seal of the Ministry of Education this 22nd Day of July 1949.
                               (signed) Mervyn Longhurst.’

On 12th September 1949 at a meeting of the (former) school managers, this new status is accepted by them, as is the new system of school managers, laid down by the Ministry: In future the managers of Ash School will be appointed as follows:

          Foundation Member.
          By the K.E.C.
          By Ash Parish Council.
plus the local Rector – ex officio member
               of the managers.
Thus in April 1950 Ash Church School becomes a Controlled Church of England Primary School, with Mrs M. J. Muller as head and Miss Barnes as assistant.
Apart from the final acquisition of the ‘Hut’ and the land on which it stands in 1958, and the alterations to the school toilets (mentioned earlier) in 1965, this is the state of the school as it is today.
