Ash next Ridley - Parish Information

The History of Education in the Village of Ash next Ridley, Kent. (1735-1950)

in the said parish of Ash for that purpose And I do hereby order and appoint that the Rector of Ash for the time being the said John Hodsoll the son of the said John Hodsoll late of South Ash Deceased And the eldest Heir male of that family for ever such of the Churchwardens and Overseers of the poor of the Parish of Ash who in no ways dissent from the Church of England shall be Trustees and Overseers of this Charity for ever And that they or the major part of them shall time to time and at all times from henceforth and for ever hereafter place or displace any master or masters and to nominate and appoint whose children and what number shall have the benefit of this Charity always preferring the children of poor inhabitants who are least able to provide for themselves and families And I do will and desire that the trustees aforesaid do meet together once in every year in the month of November in some convenient place in the said Parish of Ash And at every such meeting do cause

so much of my Will as relates to this Charity to be openly read And that they then and there examine and enquire into the state and condition of such school And to make such rules and orders for the good government as to them or the major part of them shall seem most necessary and convenient And to avoid all questions and disputes which may at any time or times hereafter arise or be made touching any matter relating to this Charity by reason of equality of voices I do order will and direct that the voice of the Rector of Ash aforesaid shall preponderate and be conclusive and finally determine the same And I hereby nominate and appoint the said John Hodsoll son of the . . . . aforesaid John Hodsoll (in the original document there is a gap in the writing) herein first named to be the first master of such school and if he refuses to accept thereof I then do appoint the said John Cater the elder of St. Mary
