Abstract of will from Chelsfield proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury Geoffrey Copus.2005

Sarah Allen of Chelsfield dated 14 December 1778

Abstract of the will of Sarah Allen of Chelsfield spinster dated 14 December 1778.
   I give the half part of the £200 that is in the hands of Mr. Robert Harris to be disposed of in the following manner -
   To my brothers James, Richard and Stephen Allen £10 each: to my sister Ann Brooks £10 or to her son Thomas Brooks after her decease: to William Brooks her son £10 that is now in his hands.
   To Grace Brooks, daughter of William Brooks £10: to Thomas Gravett £20: to Grace Gravett daughter of my sister Gravett £10.
   I give to Ann Allen, daughter of my brother William Allen, £10: to Richard Gravett , son of Richard Gravett, £5: to Thomas Gravett son of Thomas Gravett £5.
   I give to Margaret Holloway £2: to Mary Fletcher £1: to Rebacker [sic] Ringwood £1: to Alice Cuckow £1: to John and Mary Allen, children of my brother William Allen £10 apiece , and I appoint them my Executors.
   I give to the above Mary Allen all my moveables desiring none of them to be sold and all my clothes and linen except such as shall be disposed of in a paper or codicil to this will.
   I desire that the £237.10s. that is in the 3% Consolidated Annuities to be made use of by my Executors as occasion shall require, and the other part of the £200 to be disposed of in the same manner as above.
   Sarah Allen witnesses Barbara Judd, Sarah Day, Thomas Judd
   "To Grace Gravett my sisters white gound [sic] and saten not made up my yellow silk gound and dimity coat a clouded dimity coat one large sheet marked M. Allen one large sheet marked S.A.G. seven napkins one home spun counterpane no mark.
   To Grace Brook a red silk gound best white gound a small flowered red and white linen best red coat a pair of sheets marked A two damask napkins a home spun figured small coat silver snuff box.
   To Mrs. Judd one guinea for a ring for my sister. To Mrs. Harris my sisters mourning ring. To Mrs. Brook my mourning ring. If Mrs. Harris or daughters desire any thing let them have them that was my sisters. To Mr. Judd a ring for my sister. I desire these to be faller [sic] as the other will Sarah Allen.
Will and codicil proved 8 May 1782 by John Allen the nephew and Mary Allen spinster the niece.
