Abstract of will from Chelsfield proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury Geoffrey Copus.2005

John Cox of Chelsfield dated 8 March 1769

Abstract of the will of John Cox of Chelsfield wheelwright made "by the permission of God," and dated 8 March 1769.
  I give to Elizabeth Allen, wife of William Allen of Chelsham, Surrey farmer £20.
  I give to Susanna Smith, wife of John Smith of Downe farmer £10
  I give to John Durling of Downe, farmer, £10.
  I give to Sarah Skeggs and Mary Skeggs, both of Bromley, singlewomen, £10 each and to Thomas Skeggs their brother £5.
  I give to Catherine the wife of John Nibbs of Bromley £10.
  I give to Richard Locker now being with me in the parish of Chelsfield £20.
  I give to my aunt Sarah Lawrence now living with me in Chelsfield £8 per annum to be paid by my Executrix or if she die before Sarah then the £8 per annum to be continued by them that enjoy my real estate, in this manner: £2 six months after my death, and at the end of every 3 months thereafter £2 so long as my said aunt liveth.
   I give all residue of my personal estate to Sarah Francis, servant to Mrs. Hennage [?] of Mortlake, Surrey, and daughter of George Francis of Farnborough, and I appoint the said Sarah Francis Executrix.
   I give to the said Sarah Francis all my real estate, house, lands, woodlands, orchard, garden, yards, barn, shop, outhouses and appurtenances lying in the parishes of Chelsfield and Cudham, for her lifetime. On her death I leave it to Stephen Allen the son of William and Elizabeth Allen of Chelsham and to his heirs for ever, he or his heirs paying out of these premises -
   to John Smith the son of John and Susanna Smith of Downe £50: to Thomas Skeggs aforesaid £10 and to Sarah and Mary Skeggs aforesaid £20 apiece. Stephen Allen shall pay these four legacies within twelve months of the death of my Executrix.
