Abstract of will from Chelsfield proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury Geoffrey Copus.2005

Grace Smith of Chelsfield dated 11 June 1687

Abstract of the will of Grace Smith of Chelsfield widow dated 11 June 1687.
   I give to Thomas Elsley of Old Ford, Middlesex yeoman £20.
   I give to Elizabeth, Thomas and John Elsley his children £20 each at age 21 or on marriage, each to be the other’s heir if any die under age.
   I give to the said Elizabeth Elsley one striped silk petticoat and satin sleeves, one damask table cloth, 6 napkins, one diaper table cloth, one pillow and 2 pillow beers.
   I give £10 towards the education of these said children.
   I give to Anne wife of the said Thomas Elsley my cloth gown and one other silk gown, one sarsnett petticoat, 2 pairs of sheets and 6 diaper napkins.
   To my son John Smith of Wadhurst I leave my wedding ring.
   I give to John, son of the said John Smith, 40s., to my daughter Millington £10, to my daughter Ann Sheldrake £3 and to her daughter [not named] £5.
   I give to the said Ann Sheldrake my bed with all the furniture belonging to it.
   To my daughter …ester [ illegible in mf] £10. To my son William Smith £5.
   I give to Mr. Rowe [?] and the elders of the Church of Glovers Hall London for the benefit of the poor of the same £5. To the Minister and Churchwardens of the parish of Chelsfield for the use of the poor there 20s.
   I give to ten poor widows such as my Executor shall think fit 10s. each.
   I give the residue of my goods to my brother Daniel Selman of Old Ford yeoman whom I nominate as my Executor.
   The bed and furniture before mentioned given to my daughter Sheldrake is to be hers for life and then to be her daughter’s [not named].

Proved 4 August 1687 by Daniel Selman the brother.     [PCC will PROB11/388]
