following one of the Vestry Meetings when a
motion was passed condemning the action of the managers and
requesting the K.E.C. to reinstate him.17 But
despite these actions, the dismissal notice was upheld. At the
same time Miss Packman resigned leaving Ash School with no
staff!
The managers decided that it was better to have a
Headmaster than a Headmistress, but as there were no applicants
for the post; the decision was reversed and Miss Wright took up
her duties as Headmistress in February 1912. Miss L. Summers was
her assistant, and later two other assistants were appointed –
Miss Stanley and Miss Bowler.
In the same year Mr Meyers brought a legal action |

against the managers, over his dismissal. The
Kent Messenger of May 11th and 18th reported the case verbatim
under the headline; ‘The Ash Case’.18 The
N.U.T. paid around £1000 in his defence, while The National
Society guaranteed to cover any expenses that the Managers
incurred during the trial and the Managers won the case and the
dismissal notice was further upheld. For some years after this
Mr Meyers attended the vestry meetings and his signature appears
for the last time in 1915. He was a manager of the school until
17 Minutes of vestry
meetings - 12th April 1912 and 22nd May 1912.
