The History of Education in the Village of Ash next Ridley, Kent. (1735-1950)
by N. J. Muller.  An Historical and Sociological Survey

          Introduction     Page 2

The letters I have written have gone as far away as Gibraltar, and to such unlikely places as Kelly’s Directories. The many helpful answers I have had have all proved useful, but I must thank especially; the K.E.C. for their most generous help all the way through, and particularly Mr. Allen and Mr. Hawker for the help and encouragement that they gave me. I must also thank Miss Davies, who succeeded Miss Wright as Head and gave some light on the fate of the missing Log Book. My thanks also go to Mr. E. N. Moore, Borough Librarian in Gravesend, who went to a great deal of trouble to help me, both in writing and when I went to see him. The Kent Messenger has kindly reproduced for me their coverage of the legal case between Mr. Meyers

and the School Managers and this appears elsewhere in the work. Within this list of acknowledgements must be included the Diocesan Archive office at Rochester for allowing me to borrow certain correspondence; to Mr. Trend (who’s letter is reproduced in appendix 5); to Canon Soar, director of Religious Education for Rochester Diocese, for his invaluable suggestions; to the Rev. A. Ford, Rector of Fawkham, who obtained the Frontispiece for me; to the County Archives at Maidstone and in particular Dr. Hull who is the County Archivist; to Mrs. Fletcher, daughter of Mr. Meyers who gladly gave me some information when I visited her, and then wrote me a very nice letter.
